12 basic SEO tips to fine tune your Web pages
This week
JNB
Web Promotion wanted to share a few very basic SEO
refresher tips. Things that are easy to do, but that can
help make a difference
in your Web visibility. In a minute we'll offer 12 very
basic SEO
tips, but let's talk about your content in general
first...
When performing
SEO
- Focus on writing for the human reader first
and search engines second.
While search engine optimization is important to your
visibility,
try writing your content first. Having done some good
keyword
research first, know your topic and the exact phrase you
are
going after. For tips on performing more effective keyword
research
Most people just simply never write their best content
when trying
to optimize AND create content at the same time. Yet we
continually
see people trying to do this.
Spend time wisely, create useful content that will be a
genuine benefit to their visitors. Once you have written
something of genuine value that stands on its own merit,
you can go back over the content as a second step and
apply
some mild optimization.
This is much easier than trying to optimize while creating
your
content at the same time. Following this simple rule of
taking
it in 2 phases will help you enormously.
Here are a few very basic SEO tips:
Think of these as very basic reminders...
-Use your keyword prominently toward the beginning of the
Title tag
-Use your keyword prominently in the Description Meta tag
-Use your toward prominently once in the Meta keyword tag.
But don't "stuff" the tag with a loads of keywords - only
use
the main keyword phrase plus a few synonyms.
-You can Use misspellings if you like.
-You can use your keyword in a Heading tag
-Don't forget your keyword needs to be use in actual body
text
-Use your keyword phrase at least one instance of Link
text
-Keep your content focused on one phrase so that it reads
well and
uses plenty of good secondary supporting terms.
-Remember to use your Keyword phrase as a whole phrase
together
-Work on building link popularity
-Good descriptive text in your links build reputation
-Avoid building up link reputation that looks unnatural or
contrived.
For effective search engine marketing, you need more than
just top
rankings. Remember to include strong calls to action to
compel a
response from the visitor.
What do you want the reader to do once they finish reading
your
content? You need to clearly build these options into each
page
and leave nothing to chance.
While you are increasing your visibility of your newly
optimized
content, why not also look for ways to increase response
from your
current traffic too?
One way to increase "business response" with your current
traffic
is to offer a special promotion. This could be a seasonal
promotion,
a special offer or a discount on a product featured
prominently on
your home page. Offer something that is popular at the
right price,
but don't offer too many choices.
Increasing sales with your current traffic is just as nice
as
bringing in brand new traffic. Be sure to make the most of
your
log files and apply monetization strategies based on how
visitors
are behaving on your Web site.
Are there any more influences than these to learn about?
Absolutely.
In Google there are a couple hundred influences that you
can study
and learn more about. These are just a few very basic
suggestions
to get you started.
Need some help to build and refine your SEO skills to a
mastery
level for maximum impact?
There are more options to build high performance SEO/SEM
skills
than ever before:
Don't create low quality "doorway" pages created just for
search
engines, or other "cookie cutter" approaches with little
or no original content.
Instead, create information rich pages that are loaded
with quality
content. Create pages of high value and high interest to
your visitors.
Create content that merits true relevancy and deserves to
rank well and
stand the test of time.
