5 - The search engine industry is changing
A view of the current search engine market shows now that three enterprises are controlling there: Google, Yahoo/Inktomi and Overture/FAST/AltaVista. Differently formulated: There are two potential candidates, who could form themselves as Googlejaeger. However it is, as in last new type character already suggested, perfectly unclear whether Yahoo intends this at all. Still more skeptically possible ambitions are to be judged in this direction for Overture. Finally Overture lives on the fact that they co-operate well with other portal operators - by the way a central advantage opposite Google. If the company would use its new advertisement to become even the portal operator this advantage would be there. The assumptions of Inktomi and Alta Vista do not have to lead thus inevitably to a larger competition for Google.

How quickly changes can take place, the development of the last years shows (see table) within shortest time Google multiplied its market share, while for instance Alta Vista disappeared in the zero. Other search engines, like Excite or Infoseek, were completely adjusted.
Besides, Infoseek, Disney, last owners of Infoseek.com, offers the remnants to the search engines to purchase. Matt Dwells, a former developer of Infoseek.com, explained however the fact from its view. The technology of Infoseek was quite become outdated and for the today's Web no longer appropriate.
